Three-Part Q&A
1) Brother/Sister XXX,
Question: Are you willing to follow the Lord Jesus Christ and become His true disciple?
Are you willing to become a child of God, love your heavenly Father all your life, obey His will, and allow the Holy Spirit to renew your life?
Are you willing to join the church — God's household — to serve the heavenly Father and serve one another among God's children?
Are you willing to follow the God of evangelism and mission, "carrying out the Great Commission until the Lord comes"?
The one being baptized may respond each time: "I am willing"
2) Recite the Nicene Creed
Recite the Nicene Creed together with the congregation
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
Maker of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
The only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,
Begotten of the Father, God from God,
Light from Light,
True God from true God,
Begotten, not made, one in being with the Father;
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation, He came down from heaven,
Conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary,
He took on flesh and became man,
Under Pontius Pilate,
He was crucified for us; He suffered and was buried;
On the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven,
Seated at the right hand of the Father;
He will come again in glory,
To judge the living and the dead.
And his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
Proceeding from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped
And glorified; He has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one holy catholic church,
Handed down from the apostles.
I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
2) Question: Brother/Sister XXX,
Do you believe the essential truths that the orthodox church has believed throughout the ages — the truths that our church also believes?
Answer: I believe
3) (Water baptism)
